Manifesto

This is “that page where we put the serious stuff” as Grandma calls it.

Because there is a reason why we do, what we do
and we do not doodle on the things we've done.

First

Manifesto

Illiterate Code Games creates games with dedication and love for the genre, not for business. It needs to be sustainable, not profitable.

Our vision is strongly opinionated and may differ from the ideas of other creators and the expectations of some players.

This manifesto is our commitment to transparency: towards players, so they know what to expect from our games; to us, so that our decisions will be based on solid principles.

Second

Principles

Consistency

Our players will always know what to expect. Should we want to explore a successful storyline (with sequels, prequels, or spin-offs), the resulting games will remain true to the original one. If you enjoyed one of our games, you will find its foundational elements (art direction, writing, interface) in all related games.

Independence

ICG will never be our primary source of income, allowing us to make bold choices and avoid chasing trends or appeasing ideologies. We don't create games to please a group or specific culture, but to entertain with lightness and provide experiences, emotions, and stories worth remembering.

Substance

Releasing games that people can play is our top priority. Building a community is important, and we will strive to be present, but we'd rather build quietly than talking without delivering.

Clarity

We will do our best to make sure our players know what to expect from our games.

Third

Commitments

We create point-and-click graphic adventures

If we wish to explore other genres, we will do so under a different name. No surprises.

We will treat you as a smart person

We may create games that are more or less challenging, but in no case will we provide shortcuts. We won’t turn your adventure into a guided tour.

We want you to be engaged

We will succeed if you happen to think about the game while doing something else. The urge to rush to your PC to check if you solved a puzzle is a fundamental part of the experience we want for you.

No arcade sequences

Our games are mental challenges, to be savored slowly, perhaps in small sips, like a good glass of wine. Don't expect adrenaline and enjoy a relaxing ride.

No dead-ends

You will never die in game or find yourself in irrevocable situations. If you're stuck, rest assured that the solution is right in front of you — you just need to find it.

No moon logic

We will do our best to clarify your goals, give you clues, and create puzzles that you can solve through observation, logic, and lateral thinking.

Illiterate Code Games

Illiterate Code Games is a collective of developers and game designers based in Italy.

We love making stuff and we hope you'll enjoy playing our games as much as we had fun creating them.

Sorry guys, no cookies here. We ate them all.
